Drummer, solo

The library is taste-
and colorless, desert, sea
existing only on the edge
of your atmosphere,
some would say it is larger
than the universe
while others claim it’s just
a tiny box of lies
illusion and a fruitloop dream.

You have to enter,
though alone,
to find the music
from its countless shelves,
songs of sandalwood and rose,
holy harmonies unspoiled
and when you dare
to bang the drum
that hangs beside the doors,
an ancient man
will dissolve himself from
the depth of shadows,
conducting symphonies
of words his heroes left behind
.
He will rise to be
your secret lover,
the captain of the ship that takes you from
this sunny April afternoon through
darkness into noon.
your life despite of God.

Drummer Solo
Vilen Barsky

Today Punam hosts at dVerse with a prompt on music where we are to integrate at least two lines that are titles from songs by Linda Perry:

  1. Edge Of Your Atmosphere
  2. Sunset Strip
  3. Life Despite God
  4. Sunny April Afternoon
  5. Bang The Drum
  6. Life in a Bottle
  7. Fruitloop Daydream
  8. Tiny Box Of Lies
  9. Knock Me Out
  10. I Am My Father’s Daughter
  11. Don’t Touch Me While I Am Sleeping
  12. Secret Lover

To me, it felt like a poem for the aged librarian again.

  1. Oh yes, music in the library, a fantastic idea, Björn! I love the description of the library in the lines:
some would say it is larger
    than the universe
    while others claim it’s just
    a tiny box of lies
    illusion and a fruitloop dream’
and the entrance of the aged librarian is spectacular, conducting symphonies of words his heroes left behind’.

  2. Oh, wonderful to see the librarian make an appearance! I love the idea of it being a tiny box of lies and the old librarian playing the drum.
Thanks for joining in with this spectacular write.

  3. This part speaks to me:
    “You have to enter,
    though alone,
    to find the music”
    It is the only way.
And when you sing what you have gleaned,
may you be blessed that others may hear it.

  4. “songs of sandalwood and rose,
    holy harmonies unspoiled”

    oh Wow
    like this one a lot!

    much💖love

  5. that takes you from
    this sunny April afternoon through
    darkness into noon

How true it is Bjorn! Such is the power of love. Left to its own it will develop great tendencies of human nature that aligns itself to the bright side of life!

  6. I hope to hear much more about this librarian.

His description and that of/surrounding his library brings to mind the movie The Bone Collector. Or Seven. Or maybe both. Pretty sure there were gloomy libraries in both.
