Wardrobe musings

Autumn tiptoes yet in high-heel shoes,
wears a smock of green,
a Summer’s hand-me-down,
pretending that her overweight is veiled
by Summer’s muslin gauze
but in her wardrobe she has kept
last year’s frizzled tweed
of umber, ochre and sienna
and by the door —
her wellies waits as

she dreams
of rain and mud, of gusts and gales
tearing bone from flesh,
and if you grumble
she may cackle
leering that the weather’s never bad
but your clothes may be.

  1. I love the hint of autumn colors: last year’s frizzled tweed
of umber, ochre and sienna. Autumn may be tiptoeing but she is already here with her muddy boots. Have a good weekend!

  2. Wonderful humor and word-smithing. A tidy and clever nod to autumn as naughty nymph, as a banshee cloaked in fairy dust; nice job.

  3. Well, she may come knocking, but she ain’t gettin in until I’m good & ready, no matter how she’s dressed…and I guarantee I won’t be ready anytime soon.
    Great write, BR.

  4. she may cackle
leering that the weather’s never bad
    but your clothes may be.

A fitting reference on sensitivities of materials that are wrapped around us.

  5. I love the personification of Autumn, Björn. Seasons turn gently here, but I imagine where you are Autumn is already very much in evidence (as it was in England in August!)
