Despite the fact
that Echo was the
perfect mirror
of her lovely voice,
singing praise,
Narcissus only fell
in love with mirrors
that could echo
pictures of himself.
And so in vain
their perfect match
was doomed
and thus for them
remained themselves
alone.
A second Quadrille bringing in myth for De at dVerse.

Like the use of mirror as a second echo here. And I never really felt sorry for Narcissus before…
That really was a long, sad loneliness. This telling is so simple, it resonates. Well done, Bjorn. Hey hope you are feeling (and seeing) better!
An interesting perspective. I never thought of an echo as a kind of mirroring before, but of course it is. Yes, it was a sad story.
I looked up Zeus, Hera, Echo and Narcissus. I think Paul’s earlier quadrille referencing Juno (Hera) makes sense now in this context. She probably could not have got Narcissus to take attention off of himself even if she could speak freely.
Oh this is absolutely fabulous!❤️ I love how an echo can act as a type of mirroring effect 🙂
A perfect match indeed but sadly it was doomed ~ I like your second take on Echo prompt Bjorn !
Fabulous work likening the echo to a mirror..
Wonderful!
Nice package, poem and photo
Happy Tuesday Bjorn
much love…
A simple, lovely telling of the myth (and the Waterhouse image is perfect).
Yes, we must open our eye to the mirror
Perfectly penned!
Amazing piece, thanks for sharing!
We need to love ourselves. But when self-love becomes a madness that allows us to care for nothing other than ourselves, well… that kind of damaged loving create rather powerful loneliness.
That was splendid! I loved the phrase “mirror that could echo picture of himself”.
ooooh. nice nice! the play on Echo as name and echo is so good.
Oh, I would never look for someone who matched my echo. 🙂 Great writing!
Nice work Bjorn. Mirror/echo is a great way to play this.
