Unburdened,
passed my nights
in satin paled by touch
of hands and moths
unscorched:
a fevered fire;
It was
before I fell, on wings
aflamed, an Icarus of me.
I lost myself to gravity
to lies of living lightly
I made a pyre of myself
beneath,
and you my flame
have made me ash.
Today Kerry inspires us with book-titles at toads to change them around a little.

“an Icarus of me” — I write of him often. I LOVE this phrasing.
And THIS:
“I lost myself to gravity
to lies of living lightly”
(such dissonance there between gravity and lightly…and yet so perfect.)
You are so awesome!!! I love the whole poem, but I especially like these sections:
“in satin paled by touch
of hands and moths
unscorched”
“I made a pyre of myself”
And of course the ending makes you a phoenix, which is SO perfect.
Seriously, hands and moths?! That is fantastic imagery! I will never forget that.
Very imaginative use of words. Nicely done.
Such elegant phrasing here Bjorn 🙂
There is a beautiful subtlety in this piece–maybe the cadences in your phrasing–anyway–beautifully done!
So many great words and phrases here…. but this I love “I lost myself to gravity
to lies of living lightly”
Your phrasing as always pulls me in. Any reference to classic mythology is a win in my heart. But oh that ending stanza of contrasts and alliteration so well done.
Great twist on one of my favorite myths. There is a uniqueness to your syntax that intrigues and pulls the reader in.
“I lost myself to gravity to lies of living lightly” I love that line and the reference to Icarus.
I agree!
Wow, gorgeous.
a fevered fire”….love that poem!
I lost myself to gravity
to lies of living lightly
Wow, Bjorn. This is one on my favourite poems of April thus far. Just exceptional work.
A new twist to the Icarus myth and skillfully rendered!
You find the best images and inspiration, Bjorn…I love this part:
“satin paled by touch
of hands and moths
unscorched”
Wow. So enjoyed this thought-provoking poem.
Some gorgeous writing going on over here BJorn!!
This was gorgeous. Loved every single line
The lines “I lost myself to gravity
to lies of living lightly” luscious! How many times have I lost myself to gravity in so many ways!
