Still Life with a Hat, an Umbrella, and a Bag. John Frederick Peto

Still(ness)

(Di)stilled –
your sunhat rests
in perfect harmony
with my umbrella.

Cause formaldehyde
replaced my blood
your ash is scattered
and has stilled the waves.

Still your sunhat rests
and gently folds itself
around my dry umbrella.

  1. Ha ha. Do I really see what I think I see? Probably not. Well, I see what I see. But that doesn’t mean you said what I read. ya dig?

  2. As sad as it could be, I like that the two lovers are together again with her hat and his umbrella holding each other close. The two of them now on their greatest adventure.

  3. interesting thought that the formaldehyde has replaced the blood of the survivor. Death of a loved one can certainly feel that way. Nice write!

  4. I dont think i will ever move it , finding the knife through my heart each time i look at it far less painful…
