  1. in some cemeteries, the old stones are white and soft, that over time and rain seem to softly fade – like the memories of the past

  2. What a handsome fella!
The ancestor whose portrait hangs in my grandmother’s living room? He looks exactly like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. [Shudder!] Won’t be sharing his photo on the blog, LOL!

    What an exquisite haiku 🙂

  3. Ah these old photos fade now and so the memories as those who came later forget their stories … very distinquished looking.

  4. I really relate to this lovely haiku and think about this a lot. I once wrote a poem with the line: as though, it’s kind of up to me, to summon forth their memory. I guess this what happens as one gets older – people age and pass away, and slowly there remains only a few left who remember their voices and their touch – and, mostly, the way they treated others, I think. That’s hard to pass down.
