A nice very different take on coolness Björn… an awesome haiku and that painting is gorgeous.
The painting is one of the most Swedish paintings.. and have been on stamps once.. it hangs on a museum in Stockholm…
It is a gorgeous painting …
The language of the fan. Nicely done Bjorn.
yes that what it can whisper…
Great picture, who is this, if I may ask?
The painting is made by Alexander Roslin and the motif is apparently Marie-Suzanne Giroust who was a member of the french academy of arts…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie-Suzanne_Giroust
The painting is one of the most famous paintings we have in Sweden..
So much about my knowledge of Sweden …rather shameful, I guess (but then, paintings have never been one of my dearer obsessions).
Many a thanks for enlightening me! 🙂
I love this…I just found my hand fan last night too:)
Good for you.. 🙂
So true. I’ve written a few light verses where the last line is a “reality check” on what – at first blush – appears to be close to perfection. And ever since, I find my head going there, often. People are rarely as picture perfect as they might first appear. Great portrait, by the way.
Bjorn, lovely piece with a realistic ending. Beautiful painting. I sometimes wonder how people could stand all the layers of clothing they used to wear in the 19th Century and before. The weather became hot at times then too. No wonder you read of women fainting oftener in those days. 🙂 —Susan
This is a beautiful haiku Bjorn, I love the idea of the lady sitting fanning herself in the torrid summer. (I must admit, that I have several fans that I use and never leave the house without one in the summer.) Quite lovely.
A vivid photo created with a few words….masterful as always!
I like the way you have taken such a sweet, romantic image and grounded it in physicality.
Lovely photo!
