I saw
a starling sit
an emerald with wings
left without its murmuration
alone
Today the dVerse Open Link Night opens at 3PM EST. Welcome. I like the fact that a flock of starlings can be called a murmuration.

awh… loved the richness of this and the sadness… you’ve captured both worlds
Many thanks… Thought I go short in my poem today.. 🙂
Murmuration. What a great word! It fits perfectly in a poem.
One of my favorite words…
Bjorn, nice piece. Don’t you just love that word. I wrotye a poem a while ago just so I could use it. >KB
murmuration, sussurus.. there are some gorgeous word out there.
deliquesence…>KB
Starlings are quite pesty birds here sometime, but I must admit I like the word ‘murmuration’ — and loved your video, which could make a formation of even the pestiest birds beautiful! Smiles.
I can understand that they are pesty.. if they are many that’s oft the result
i like that you see it as an emerald…those last couple lines are quite emotive….playing off the name of the group….
yes, am emerald with wings is a quite beautiful image…murmuration, such a wonderful and poetic word.
poor starling. Very beautifully done.
Reading
Your cinquian
reminds me that
your creativity knows no
boundaries.
oh i feel sad for him… murmuration is a beautiful word and so precious to have the company of others
Amazing what a group of birds can do ~ Yet you have also beautifully captured the beauty of one ~
Great use of the form, Björn! I too like the word murmuration.
Oh, I love this, finding the jewel in the flock, and yes, we are both on the same page this week 🙂
Beautifully done, and a new word for me, too.
i loved the accompanying beauty that shows the ease of connection of our feathered friends..flowing in harmony..as ‘that’ song as well..
But my intuition..tells me that the Starling from the time of born..to the hereafter..
is never
a
lone.
They are amazing, aren’t they? Apparently not that popular with farmers, as they can destroy crops and telegraph wires etc. But oh, so beautiful to watch!
I enjoyed this, great piece!!! I don’t think it was too short, it told us all we needed to know in this moment 🙂
a beautiful cinquain, word perfect… I love watching murmurations of starlings in flight – not often one finds then alone
Gorgeous video, Bjorn, and lovely cinquain. The starling may be a messy bird but its iridescent coloration is beautiful in the sunlight.
But I believe that “murmuring” is dangerous. It is pointless and scary. That bird should be proud, not taken by the flock. 🙂
an emerald with wings – what a great line, Bjorn. I love murmurations – have written of them, too, here
So good how you find the beauty in that bird and, of course, the descriptive title. If I could only choose one subject to write of, I think it would have to be birds.
Such images and thoughts stir from this. solitude, loneliness, universality, independence, strength, and simply “nature”. Nice!
Beautiful and sad. The video was amazing. I love that word!
aww beautiful and sad!
Provides an interesting focus – seeing the one among the many.
thank you
solitary beauty!
beautiful and simple
thank you
An emerald with wings is such a beautifuly penned image.
A cinquain filled with beauty..such a majestic creature and the group dancing in the sky just mesmerized..I adore birds thank you for sharing..
The whole crowd of them. More than just a ‘murmur’. Imagine a whole flock can go one direction and another towards the opposite. Fantastic coordination. Nicely Bjorn!

Beauty in brevity tonight – nice. A lot said – simply.
I had never heard of that before but it’s truly a beautiful word for such a beautiful movement. The poem goes without saying. ❤
A lone starling came to my feeder yesterday, and I admired it with trepidation, hoping it wasn’t a scout for a hoard of brethren, a murmuration. In their jostling mob it’s hard to remember they were imported for their beautiful song… nice imagery.
Alone but shining through, a conundrum it can be and like that word too.
It is rare to see one starling, alone, at least here. They like to visit lawns in groupings. But have never seen a “murmuration” quite like the one in the video. Small but lovely capture written of seeing a single starling. And thanks for the “new” word and term–I like it. A “murmuration of starlings,” much softer (and less violent sounding) than a “murder of crows!”
A wonderful share to warm the heart on a cold snowy night. Thank you!
Makes me thing of all the other names of animal groupings of..how beautiful, Bjorn…thanks for sharing your vision of him..birds are smart, I wonder what he’s thinking
“an emerald with wings” oooo.
Short poem, but oh so sweet. I didn’t know the word ‘murmuration’. Lovely.
Not fond of starlings…yet, the musical murmuration is lovely (as is your emerald poem)
A lovely cinquain BR and thanks for the video of their dance
You did so much with so few words…beautiful words, music…and the whole thing is just lovely :)) xoxo ~jackie~
lucky bird to have you eyed on it…………….to write wonderful words
A balletic cloud of starlings is a sight to be wondered at. Lovely cinquain.
Lovely…birds are gems I think…always bring a smile to my face. 🙂
Beautiful – the sheen of a starling’s feathers is a wonder to behold.
Gorgeous.
So precise and rich in value… Its cool to know the new word too.
Awesome, Bjorn!
after being part of such a thing, one would certainly be aware of its aloneness and its absence would be felt from its flock as well~ stunning video, wonderful write
The loneliness…
Lovely poem.
A fantastic use of words. Simply stunning.
Only you can say so much-in so few a words and so beautifully, Bjorn!Am floored-again:-)
