Angst by Alfred Kubin
in darkest silence lies my angst
where heavy heartbeats echo
there loneliness can grip my throat –
a muted dark falsetto
in pitter-patter from my sweaty head
I’m abandoned and I’m seen as dead

Very powerful piece…well done.
Thank you
Hearing you read it is even more powerful. Not being seen is such a worry and scare for most of us, one that can keep us awake.
If only we knew how much we meant to other people, we would sleep soundly,I think.
Silence can be very unnerving especially at night..
yes, you’re right. It must be why I go to sleep with the TV on.
Yikes! Very good.
I was going to add more – but I won’t – for if this your genuine fear you definitely won’t want to know.
Anna :o]
And the challenge is limited to 33 words 🙂
Very good!
I like the rhythm and flow of this poem.
Thank you so much
Nice reading, Good poem.
Thank you Joe
Love it! Love it! Love it! The audio track kills! Love your wordsa nd the idea of lonliness and abandonment and, even death but, hearing you speak makes all the difference and pleases me tremendously. Hooray and bravo!!!
Ah you was a great inspiration the other week — so I got myself a soundcloud account.
Loved listening to this one…where you slow down and what you emphasize. I’m afraid to write of what I’m most afraid of.
I hope you are ready to write about pumpkins… smiles
This is beautiful, Bjorn, loved listening and reading the words. Great job!
Thank you 🙂
the tourist trap restaurant
called pittypat’s porch
sent diners to an early grave
or the cremation torch
Oh that’s really scary..
so much beauty
in dark words of tragedy
the loneliness of life
surrounded by others
how can it be
for one to feel so solitary.
-this is so beautiful bjorn…I’ve felt this many times…but for the first time in my life I no longer feel alone…I hope you don’t either..
love you brother.
I’m not alone… but the fear can still be there I think… and your poem is lovely.
I understand that completely…thank you…you inspired the poem..so it’s an extension of your lovleiness.
This is really good. Feeling like that is tough. I used to feel this way quite often. I never thought things would get better but they always did.
It’s often better but the fright might still be there.
Like the Soundcloud idea. Enjoyed hearing your voice. Don’t be afraid to slow, slow, slow the read down even more.
That is a terrifying possibility. Well written and I hope you nor I ever experience it.
Hey… nice piece! Like the graphic too… appropriate.
Scary! Love it!
Awesome!
how scary that feeling must be! no one should feel like that!
This reads well, but it’s even better when YOU read it 🙂 Loneliness and darkness go hand-in-hand.
Björn! Such a moving and powerful poem. You so effortlessly move to the core of dread. This piece is made even stronger by your reading of it! Loved hearing your voice and inflection. As always, beautifully written. :))
I understand this feeling a lot.
Great piece Bjorn, I liked the sound of your voice, really added to the message.
Love hearing your voice! Well-written, well read.
Beautiful! Well-written and such gorgeous pacing. And I loved hearing you read this! 🙂
Such a punch to the gut. The emotions you express are very familiar. Maybe too familiar.
Beautifully written! Very good choice for the illustration!
Powerfully written, Björn
Powerfully pened… wonderful.
I hate being awake at night. Life can seem so utterly bleak.
It was absolutely awesome to hear you read this piece, Bjorn!!
Being mistaken for dead – the ultimate fear, I think.
Love the audio, too, Björn!
You nailed my biggest fear. Thanks for linking up! Be sure to come back and vote for your favorites.
Wonderful. I love the way you read it too. It’s very Edgr Allan Poe!
Oops, Make that Edgar Allan Poe! 😀
Very powerful, I really liked this.
Loneliness is another fear I try to ignore the existence of. Very well addressed here, Björn.
Excellent work. The fear is palpable.
