Carpe Diem Haiku – Bashoo (Bananaplant)

It has been suggested that the forbidden fruit from Genesis was not an apple but a banana. This is also what is written in the Quran. Given the conditions under which the banana workers produce this fruit maybe there are a lot of good thoughts in that idea. The banana we can buy in the stores today have been produced under conditions of pesticides and working conditions that are close to slavery. It’s also a market that is dominated by a few very powerful companies. Sweden has among the highest consumptions of bananas in the world, and fortunately we can now buy fair-trade bananas that has been produced without pesticides. Today I eat bananas every day, and would find it difficult to manage without this exotic fruit.

  1. Did you know the life of a banana plant is literally an uphill battle 🙂 Banana plants ‘ walk’ up hill in subsequent crops of initial plants . This information came to me courtesy of the Big Banana at Coffs Harbour in NSW Australia ( been there many a time )
