Līgo Haibun Special is to connect two pictures from Līgo festival.
This has been a very special week here in Sweden as well. Midsummer is over but it’s a holiday of magic and love. There are probably some similarities. Wreaths on your head, especially for girls, the story below is fiction, but could have happened to many people in Sweden.

Her old hands could still make midsummer wreaths and the blue flowers would fit her granddaughter perfectly. Ellen’s dark blue eyes where almost purple, a colour she recalled from a midsummer many years ago.
She had been with distant friends in a summerhouse. But she had been the only one unattached so she felt like the odd one left out. When couples gradually disappeared into secrecy she decided to go out and greet the rising sun of the shortest night of the year. With hope in her heart she thought this would be a new beginning, and to a symphony of birds she raised her hands to greet the raising sun.
She suddenly felt someone beside her and looked into a pair of intensely blue eyes that would never leave her from that moment.
She smiled at Ellen, saying:
“Midsummer is the day for the young”
and put the wreath on Ellen’s blond hair, and Ellen smiled back and went to dance around the maypole.

So happy to see your name come up with an entry. Beautiful writing and my heart just wants to tell her to go out there and dance no matter her age. 🙂
that was lovely, I especially enjoy a view into other cultures.
Just never know when one may show.
The haiku is so perfect without the explanation although who wouldn’t want to read your writing.
Beautifully sweet story.

Lovely story and the haiku is beautiful – youths connect – I like that.
Hello Björn, I really liked your approach this week. Memories that we recall from our youth add such depth to our life’s experiences. We travel through life but look back upon those special moments. Your haibun expresses this vividly. Your words (as always) flow until your haiku captures the very essence of your prose. An excellent haibun!
