Carpe Diem Haiku – Risshun (coming of spring)

Carpe Diem today is classical Kigo Risshun, coming of spring. This is so close to my heart, but we are not yet at spring here. This little picture from of a pussy willow is from a childrens songbook this one is actually a lullaby.

Sov du lilla videung,
än så är det vinter!
Än så sova björk och ljung,
ros och hyacinter.
Än så är det långt till vår,
innan rönn i blomma står.
Sov du lilla vide,
än så är det vinter.

Sleep, little wicker-bush,
It is still winter!
Sleeping still are birch and heather,
Roses and hyacinths.
It’s still long until spring,
Until the rowans bear fruit.
Sleep, little wicker,
It’s still winter.

  1. Lovely post today. You had me at lullaby. When I was very young , I recall the pussy willow as a harbinger of spring too. Could not listen to the lullaby however. Banned in US 🙂
