Windlashed

In windlashed rain
we bend
to struggle windward
for ideas,
new perceptions,
to connect the reason
with its cause;
so when we find
the doors we know
much better
than before.

A Public Garden with People Walking in the Rain
Vincent van Gogh

Today I host Open Link at dVerse, and as an optional prompt I provide the simple prompt “Solitur ambulandu” or it’s solved by walking.

  1. I love that “to struggle windward/for ideas,/new perceptions, /to connect the reason with its cause” There is something very satisfying about that. Great poem

  2. Yes, many a problem is solved by walking, especially on windlashed rainy days, Björn. As you know, I love van Gogh’s art; this one was unfamiliar, and I love where it took you, to ‘new perceptions, to connect the reason with its cause’.

  3. I am a walker, Bjorn .. most days from two to three miles. A chance to meditate, reflect, listen to the voices inside me. I love the art you chose, I “see” music in the background .. a staff, musical notes even the treble clef .. which may explain my penchant for headphones and music on my walks.

  4. Such power in the brevity of your verse, Bjorn! Wow! I am blown away by “we bend to struggle windward for ideas.” Yes, very much so! 💙💙
