In windlashed rain
we bend
to struggle windward
for ideas,
new perceptions,
to connect the reason
with its cause;
so when we find
the doors we know
much better
than before.

Vincent van Gogh
Today I host Open Link at dVerse, and as an optional prompt I provide the simple prompt “Solitur ambulandu” or it’s solved by walking.

I love that “to struggle windward/for ideas,/new perceptions, /to connect the reason with its cause” There is something very satisfying about that. Great poem
I think we need that struggle actually…
I admire the brevity here, Bjorn. And thanks for hosting!
Sometimes short is just better.
“to struggle windward for ideas” – I love that phrase!
yes… the satisfaction is the struggle
I’ve walked much in “windlashed rain”–brrr! I love it when the “answer” or “door” appears.
I know the windlashed part quite well too..
I often struggle windward for ideas!
It is so great with that door opening
Concise and insightful, Bjorn! Jim
Thank you
I love your concept of seeking insight while walking “in wind lashed rain”
The satisfaction lies in the struggle.
Continuous learning is a must. The door of learning is always waiting to be opened.
I know… that is why I write poetry actually
:>)
Amen. And when I walk I learn the “windward ideas” with winding mind.
I think we need those ideas more than the easy ones
Yes, many a problem is solved by walking, especially on windlashed rainy days, Björn. As you know, I love van Gogh’s art; this one was unfamiliar, and I love where it took you, to ‘new perceptions, to connect the reason with its cause’.
When we walk those connections are being made I think
The word windlashed stands out and I find my self leaning in for those new ideas.
I think the word really says what it is…
Yes, Björn, movement in space so often helps ideas along…
That is what I think too, especially if we engage…. perhaps less so when just sitting in a couch moving through space.
I am a walker, Bjorn .. most days from two to three miles. A chance to meditate, reflect, listen to the voices inside me. I love the art you chose, I “see” music in the background .. a staff, musical notes even the treble clef .. which may explain my penchant for headphones and music on my walks.
very interesting Björn.
Thanks for dropping by my blog
much love
short and deep. The best. Love the meaning.
Such power in the brevity of your verse, Bjorn! Wow! I am blown away by “we bend to struggle windward for ideas.” Yes, very much so! 💙💙
Nice write Björn 👏 A tough walk through the storm leading to understanding.
