Beneath a willow, unmarked grave
remembered in the winter’s shadow
by an aging raven in the tree
once a vibrant maiden, waiting
for her soldier left to die somewhere
beneath a willow unmarked grave
She aged in vain, withered, slept
transformed, forget their days of spring
remembered in the winter’s shadow
On wings of sorrow, searched for years
until she found and gave her song
by an aging raven in the tree

Today we are writing cascade poetry again at dVerse hosted by Merril.

This is beautiful and very poignant.
Ooh yes, Björn, a chilly winter grave and a poignant poem that cascades to its sad ending. I love the raven’s part in the tragic love story.
A raven is always a good messanger….
Indeed.
Death and a raven seem perfect for this type of poem. Beautifully done, Björn!
I am glad it worked… I think the form lends itself well to tell stories too.
It did work.
Yes, I think it does work to tell stories.
I do enjoys raven in poems. this worked well
Ravens always work
even the rythm is sad
Bravo
much love
It had to be
dark raven mourns / between bright remembrance / in winter’s shadow
Ah… yes. indeed
This is beautifully tragic. The ending is so poignant. I love your cascade poem.
War is tragic
Well done Bjorn! A dark search for a dark ending.

You clearly need Spring to come and banish all your dark thoughts, Björn! Very nicely done – a perfect cascade!
Thanks…. it is easier to write darkly in winter…. best time for poetry
A very moving poem Björn
Thank you so much
You’re most welcome
a winter grave and raven – although sad are a perfect combination Björn 🖤
Graves and ravens seem be a good fit,
🙌
Wow. I love this. So sad.
You’ve created a lovely ballad, Björn.
What a moving tale.
Bittersweet, but beautiful Björn. 🙏🏼✌🏼
A nice little circular love/ghost story. I especially like the final stanza. 👏
This is eerily beautiful, the cold, the raven, the grave. Nice job!
Aww. An affecting tale in four tercets–well done!
A wandering band of monks found the remains.
With prayers they laid her in the earth.
A wonderful cascade!
Thank you
This is so beautiful! I love your last stanza, and the use of the raven.
Such a soulful write, Björn, so suitable for the form! Beautiful.
Thank you 🙂
