His unmarked grave

Beneath a willow, unmarked grave
remembered in the winter’s shadow
by an aging raven in the tree

once a vibrant maiden, waiting
for her soldier left to die somewhere
beneath a willow unmarked grave

She aged in vain, withered, slept
transformed, forget their days of spring
remembered in the winter’s shadow

On wings of sorrow, searched for years
until she found and gave her song
by an aging raven in the tree

Today we are writing cascade poetry again at dVerse hosted by Merril.

  1. Ooh yes, Björn, a chilly winter grave and a poignant poem that cascades to its sad ending. I love the raven’s part in the tragic love story.
