Soft as pillows,
unbroken sea of snow,
free until
we carve our tracks
northward bound
week upon week
through white-out, storms
and april sun
snow both path and bed
until at last
we reach an end
to meet the spring.

A month from now we are leaving for a very long treck on skis through the Swedish Mountains. The total length of the path is around 1300 km (808 miles). We will mostly be far away from any communication but every now and then we will give updates on instagram . The picture above is taken from some the more northerly part and I hope for such weather.
Today the prompt on dVerse poetics is snow and hosted by Kim.

Oh wow!
😉
Wow, how cool!
Or cold 🙂
You both have such stamina, Björn, and brave to undertake such a trek! I love the title, the thought of snow as path and bed, the ‘unbroken sea of snow’. But such a wonderful ending, meeting the spring!
Up north it will be winter still… but returning it will be spring
I imagine you will be well kitted out, snug and warm.
As good as we can…
Safe journey and return to you both, and enjoy your adventure!
I echo what Kim says.
This is gorgeously rendered, Bjorn! I love the April sun and the idea that the snow is both “path and bed.” 😀
It must have been exhilarating! ❤️❤️
It is and it will be
Definitely 😀
Nice one
🎇much love
🙂
An adventure full of thrills and chills! I think you Swedes are a hardy lot 🙂
It is a bit different from summer….
What is this “Spring” of which thou speaketh?
Light and sun
Your beautiful poem ~ a preamble to this wild and wonderful journey. I will be thinking of you next month, wishing you well, that weather cooperates, that it’s everything you wish it to be.
Let us see if I manage to throw in some updates
This sounds like a very challenging trek, Bjorn. I hope you have a wonderful time in the snowy mountains!
I hope for many good days… and when weather turns bad we will be at a good place to rest.
Wishing you a wonderful and safe journey. Carve your tracks with care and make an impact.
I hope so too….
You have painted a bold and solid view of the snow and how to conquer it – and it is certainly good that Spring is coming – Jae
Skis or dogsled are the only good ways
I love the meeting with Spring in the end.
Spring will be very different this year, until we come back
Sounds like quite a trek. I enjoyed the poem. 😊
We have done the treck twice in summer, this will be the first time in winter.
That’s one robust employment of snow! May the trek take your far from the nuclear winter of Trump.
To be away from the news cycle will be a true bliss..
stay safe and as warm as can be. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Xo 🧣🧤
It will be an adventure, and with 2 months it will be both good and bad weather…
What a gorgeous picture you paint, Bjorn! Have a wonderful trip
Really appreciate the directness of this poem! Very well done!
Awesome man, I ve done tons of long distance hiking and there is no feeling like feeling like being out there. Belonged. Ive never done a winter trek, enjoy and take lots of pictures!
I have done a few summer hike the same distance…. and there will likely be more. Going on skiis is gonna be a bit different, but for sure also camping in snow.
You’ve made a big snowy world with a small amount of words Björn 👏
A challenging trek where snow is “both path and bed” is almost unimaginable and quite out of my purview but I expect to read of it in future poems and enjoy it vicariously, admiringly. I wish I were on instagram just to drop in on the journey. 🙂
We have done the same long trek twice in summer.
I love the snow as ‘path’ and ‘bed’.
You two are certainly a courageous pair!
Ha… we will see… but it is a lot of days to be outside.
Beautiful poem and great tour that you plan on skies, great photo too
