It is what leaves in fall, the geese, the light, the warmth of the sun and leaves that fall. It is what comes with force, the wind, the rain and kiss of frost. It is in fall we turn inside, lighting candles; resting by the fireplace. We long for dawn, we long for what has left to turn back again. We cuddle up, and remember how we were falling in love.
fall of an acorn
fleeing from squirrels’ yearning —
becoming an oak

Vincent van Gogh
Today Mish hosts dVerse haibun Monday and she asks us to write haibun about fall in all the ways it can be.
Autumn in a nutshell, Björn: ‘the geese, the light, the warmth of the sun and leaves that fall’. I love the kiss of frost, the lighting of candles, the romantic ending – and the acorn becoming an oak. Which reminds me, there was a great programme about a year in the life of an oak tree on BBC4 yesterday.
And of course the nutshell… we have hazel right outside so sometimes the squirrels are there as well
A cozy quadrille and I like the contrasts between the chill outside bringing us into the warmth and connection inside.
Sorry, Bjorn…I meant “cozy haibun”!!
Thank you … I enjoy contrasts
Squirrels plant more acorns that anyone else. I like your turning in.
an acorn’s story, when Fall can become a forest. Amazing nature.
Nice haibun
much♡love
This is sublime! ✨🧡✨🧡
Beautiful
A scene beautifully set…and then…that haiku…stunning…
Very nice haibun, Bjorn. I love your haiku!
How dreamily comfortable – so good to build enjoy the nests we create and maintain for ourselves – Jae
Beautiful, and powerful.
A perfect capture of early autumn–the turning inward and the falling, but also the comfort inside.
Our squirrels are very busy–there are lots of acorns and other nuts around.
I like the juxtaposition between the final line of the paragraph and the final line of the haiku. It’s an interesting comparison. I like the development that’s going on between the two parts of the poem.
We cuddle up, and remember how we were falling in love / becoming an oak
I just love this haibun. The images are so crisp and so short and sweet.
A fabulous haibun for fall and falling for, Bjorn! I like the Van Gogh you paired with it 🙂
Nice play on leaves, and the contrast of leaving and arriving, this leaves me with a sense of the northern winter being quite a force to contend with. I love the turning in and remembering how we were falling in love …
Beautiful. I like your play on the word “leaves” in your first sentence. The accompanying haiku is superb.
