late September
dust moths
dancing
in afternoon sun
on the rosewood table
still life
but barely
a bowl of peaches
fruitflies
and a vase of drooping
roses
its petals
ghosts against
the table’s varnish
and the carriage clock
carefully measuring
the passing of time

Today Lilian hosts dVerse Quadrille witht the words petals to incorporate into a 44 word piece of writing.
So delicately written, Björn. I love the ‘dust moths dancing in afternoon sun’ and the rose petals like ‘ghosts against the table’s varnish’. The clock may carefully measure the passing of time, but it seems to be speeding up to me.
I thought that the petals was a good word to use writing a bit imagist.
Love the imagery here….and the connection to the passage of time. Missed you at dVerse LIVE last session.
Ah…yes the passing of time… I felt that still life is not always so still
This is gorgeously rendered, Bjorn! I especially like; “carriage clock carefully measuring the passing of time.” 💙💙
I wanted to paint a mood… and petals falling are so much related to the passing of time.
Yes, absolutely! 🙂
lovely still life Björn, luv the methapor of time passing
much♡love
Thank you
“Still life but barely” is an apt description for the artwork, autumn, and old age!
Thank you… I wanted to capture the mood of some old relatives who are no longer with us.
such gentle imagery for the slip out of summer.
Time is felt mostly in fall
What a wonderful painting of the scene in words – there is a lot of detail in your 44 words – jae
Thank you… details can do so much
Your word painting is beautifully written, Bjorn.
Thank you
Nice poem.
🙏🙏
petals as little ghosts floating on the table-top– i love that image! thank you, bjorn!
It came to me…. there is something eerie about white petals.
Lovely imagery, Bjorn. The carriage clock, the passage of time, rocks so gently here.
Thank you…. it was what I wanted to portray
Oh my I felt like I’d stepped into another era reading this one…beautifully written. I love this stanza…
its petals
ghosts against
the table’s varnish
Thank you, I very much wanted to catch the vibe of a time long ago (or at least a room for someone really old)
Delicious!
Thank you
You capture the almost still life of almost Autumn even indoors, Björn…
The almost autumn will seep into every room
I LOVE this beautiful blending of art and poetry, and the imagery of still life wilting to the ticking of time.
This is what I wanted to say
Björn, your imagery depicts the passage of time so well. I love still life art. Like a haiku, you’ve captured a meaningful moment in time.
The name still life is something that means so much for me
Beautifully written
Thank you
You’re welcome
Lovely imagery Björn💕
Thank you
I love the art you chose, Bjorn ~~ and the quadrille even more!! Bravo.
Thank you so much… it is something still about life like this
Ahhhh, yes!
‘its petals
ghosts against
the table’s varnish’ Love this!
Thank you… it was something that just popped up when writing
I’m not very keen on still life paintings, but I love your still life poem! (Maybe I always need poetry to interpret the paintings for me.)
I agree… I often find still life paintings a bit boring (with the exception of some Van Gogh ones)… but in world you can imagine the scene outside the frame and then the still makes sense.
Beautiful poem, Bjorn! I love your imagery!

I love how you have painted the picture with deft, delicate strokes.
It leaves me with a feeling of gothic decadence, so many images of decay.
I like how you’ve made the petals ghosts.
