Below the flagstones

when skies are hanged and oceans drowned,
the single secret will still be man

e e cummings

Below the somber flagstones
buried bones forgotten ash

While reckless shadows play
in absentminded hide and seek

Unconcerned the mindless sun
without a thought is hanged to dry

While fall is burning veins
of woodbine’s fingered leaves.

Let’s waltz, forget the rot, let go
and drown in ocean dreams again again.

Tonight Melissa has a with pictures coupled with a couplet at dVerse. My choice was to write to the picture and lines above. This is what the picture and words led me to.

  1. We chose the same image, Björn; where I saw a wall you saw flagstones. I love the positivity in the lines:

    ‘While fall is burning veins
of woodbine’s fingered leaves. Let’s waltz, forget the rot, let go’.

  2. “While reckless shadows play
    in absentminded hide and seek

    Unconcerned the mindless sun
without a thought is hanged to dry”

I love the perceived carelessness of the sun and shadows, Björn. That melds with e. e. cummings’ lines so well. And the drowning in ocean dreams “again again” is effective.

  3. Indeed. Sometimes it is good to just let it all be and clear one’s mind. The rot will still be there when one tires of dancing.

  4. A hauntingly beautiful poem, dancing between darkness and blissful escape, embracing impermanence.

  5. I always love the slightly offbeat view you bring to nature, Björn – “Unconcerned the mindless sun
without a thought is hanged to dry””
