Today the ground was covered with a thin layer of snow. The first snow. I had slept well but woke up at five, and unable to sleep any more I lay in bed feeling miserable with a slight cold stabbing my throat. Then suddenly a message came, I have my first assignment for my new company, a workshop only to be held in the next few weeks. Then at dawn I found that the sky was clear and no windchill meant that the morning walk was pleasant. At lunch I could feel a modest caress of warmth from the pale sun, and my cold dissipated. A good day and the beginning of a week.
first snow –
a delicate veneer
covering decay
Today Frank hosts dVerse Haibun Monday and the prompt is Thanksgiving and we should write of things to be thankful for despite the dark times we are living through. Today was a day starting worse than it ended.

It’s a good day, indeed, that ends better than it starts!
It really did
That first snow always seems to promise something new and exciting, doesn’t it? Glad it turned out to be so.
Indeed, and it helps that we could both work from home.
You write about first snow, I write about eating outside in the sun. Just a few degrees makes such a difference!
Indeed it does… it has been cold for the season here.
And here, warm for the season. The climate is definitely off kilter.
Lovely. I love that the first snow and wonder if we’ll get any in The Hague this year at all.
Read you later!
Nice haibun
Much🖤love
I can only imagine what it must be to wake to the first snow. I’m glad it was a good day. Nice haibun and I love the Ai picture you created.
I like your … delecate veneer… great description for a light snowfall.
Glad you had a good day after all, Bjorn!
Oh the haiku is deep… just like some shreds of positivity that we use to mask the deep turmoil of our lives and times.. !!
This sounds wonderful for a Monday! The haiku is beautiful.
Great be beginning of the week keep it up Björn bravo
Beautiful how a day can start poorly and then progress into something wonderful. I loved the haiku too. Complements the prose portion perfectly.
Wow, Björn, that is… vivid!
Much love,
David
Love the haiku!
Congratulations on your assignment!❤️🙏🏻
