We stood by the river
of moon-spilled
slivers of silver,
but that night
the love in your eyes
sparkled, outshined
the celestial shimmer
sky had to offer.
Now shore-bound
I’m waiting, alone
with the moon-river
calling me back
to remember
years that have passed.

Tonight it is Quadrille at dVerse, the word of today is sliver, which I tried to fit into a poem together with 43 other words.
I read your title, Björn, and started to hum the song ‘Moon River’. I love the phrase ‘moon-spilled slivers of silver’ and felt a shiver of sadness when I read the final stanza.
When I read your word I immedieatly thought of silver which was the inspiration of the poem. I Swedish there is a word “mångata” which means moon street which is what you would see.
I think you may be giving Sanaa a run for the money in terms of who is the more romantic for this one! 🙂
☺️
You certainly did an excellent job. My favorite part:
“the love in your eyes
sparkled, outshined
the celestial shimmer”
Thank you… it was a long time since I wrote something romantic.
Lovely and romantic.
I suspect there will be a few of us with moons and silver, but “moon-spilled
slivers of silver,”
is gorgeous.
I just read yours and we both had that sliver of silver.
We did! 🙂
Such longing in the second stanza… and I love the slivers of silver – excellent wordplay.
It came to me directly… and I was not the only one 🙂
Beautiful!
I think it is beautiful and think that it speaks well of the wistfulness that accompanies the passage of time. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Beautifully said Björn, just like you, I too thought of silver and the heavens – great minds and all that 😊
Bravo: bittersweet romantic
Happy Monday Björn
Much🖤love
Oh this REALLY resonates with me, Bjorn. Thanks!
Very romantic and you’ve created a lovely mood in those 44 words. BBeautiful poem.
A fleeting love, down by the river–Romantic to say the best. But not now, imagine what happened? Or better, reminisce.
..
Breathtaking. I love the image and movement of ” the river of moon-spilled slivers of silver”
Such sweet memories Bjorn!
There’s nothing quite so romantic as moonlight 🙂
Your words are so lovely, each one opening me to the immediacy of the scene you paint. Wonderful and powerfully done.
The moon, a sliver of silver on Moon River… lovely imagery. I could meditate on this scene you created, Björn.
I enjoyed a romantic read, especially the “moon-spilled slivers of silver” then being the “moon-river” of memories – reflective 😊
WOW! This is so beautiful…
~David
Beautiful words.
