Moon River’s Call

We stood by the river
of moon-spilled
slivers of silver,
but that night
the love in your eyes
sparkled, outshined
the celestial shimmer
sky had to offer.

Now shore-bound
I’m waiting, alone
with the moon-river
calling me back
to remember
years that have passed.

Riverbank in Moonlight by Charles-Francois Daubigny

Tonight it is Quadrille at dVerse, the word of today is sliver, which I tried to fit into a poem together with 43 other words.

  1. I read your title, Björn, and started to hum the song ‘Moon River’. I love the phrase ‘moon-spilled slivers of silver’ and felt a shiver of sadness when I read the final stanza.

  2. A fleeting love, down by the river–Romantic to say the best. But not now, imagine what happened? Or better, reminisce.

  3. Your words are so lovely, each one opening me to the immediacy of the scene you paint. Wonderful and powerfully done.
