Adopting yourself

I never liked to promise what I cannot keep
unless it is those simple tasks I tell myself
to do tomorrow or maybe later in the week
or forget them or maybe hide them on the shelf
‘cause changes are the things we do as tiny acts
a small decision there, a random thought, a path
that leads you far away and then it circles back
to where it started or further on toward the pass
from where it’s downhill, deeper down into your grave.
So never give a promise lightly unless you like
to change, enjoy your journey, and ride the waves
adjust your maps to nature and you’ll find delight

Path under the Trees, Summer

Today Punam hosts poetics at dVerse and asks us to write about those resolutions you may have given when we are one month into the new year. I have never really done that, I give my resolutions whenever I see fit, and I change them if life’s path may lead us elsewhere.

  1. Happy birthday, Bjorn. I am always changing my resolutions as the months go by. Specially love this part:

enjoy your journey, and ride the waves
adjust your maps to nature and you’ll find delight

  2. ” a path
that leads you far away and then it circles back”
    Nice one!!!
    The shape of the journey.

  3. I too don’t make resolutions but was curious to know if others do.
Adjusting maps to nature is a beautiful sentiment and sums up a wonderful practical approach to life.
Is your birthday today? Happy birthday!

  4. Happy Birthday, Bjorn!! 🙂
Nice write, I like your attitude, don’t worry, Mother Nature survives well, you can do better and like the Nature, without worry and resolutions.

  5. “changes are the things we do as tiny acts.” – I think that this is so true. Insomuch that the changes may be both expressed through tiny acts; and tiny acts can lead toward change.

  6. These are the words to live by. I learned all this the hard way and very swiftly. I know now that change is inevitable and you have to take it one small choice at a time.

  7. “Ride the Waves” … what a delightful way to approach life. I wholeheartedly agree. Seems I read you had a recent birthday? Hope is was amazing.
