Wide-Eyed

I palmed a polished pebble
sensed its surface — skin-
like; stayed silent,
strong between my breath
and seashell-sounds of self.
I talked to scents of spring
spiderwebbed myself
an earthworm…
listened to my heart
drawing circles
in wide-eyed lucent dreams.

Solitude by Gustave Courbet

A short poem on solitude and what you can find there for my prompt at dVerse.

  1. Such a quiet poem, Björn, and so introspective. I have several pebbles I love to hold in my hand. I especially love the lines:
    ‘…stayed silent,
    strong between my breath
    and seashell-sounds of self’.
That is exactly what silence sounds like.

  2. I like the notion of a “seashell sound of self” and “spiderwebbed myself”.
You remind us that we all sprang from the sea.

    an earthworm…
    listened to my heart

In our moments of solitude there are still within us elements wanting to venture out.

  4. Lovely poem, Bjorn — I think you crack the oyster of solitude so well here, showing the pearl hidden within. Solitude brings the world into the self.
