The prison of my dazzling mind

I’ve built my bulwarks
filled my moat
with snakes and water

I’ve raised my drawbridge
locked the doors

just to make believe
that apple bloom
and lonesome roses
grown inside these walls,
dazzle more
if only seen by me.

The Soul of the Rose
by John William Waterhouse

Linked to toads and inspired by the title of cumming’s poem “The Mind Is Its Own Beautiful Prisoner”.

  1. My goodness this is good!💞 You depict the frenzied state of mind so eloquently! Thank you so much for writing to the prompt 🙂

There are times one prefers to be alone to bask in the pleasures of observing beauty!
