You are river, running wild
You are river running high.
I’m a footpath rarely walked
I’m a footpath, make me cry
No cairn is needed, I follow river
I ask for nothing, you’re my giver
You are darkness river heartless.
My doom is drowning, suffocating,
but for you I’m helpless
You my darkness river heartless.
Every step will bring me closer
to the ocean, with your motion
to the point when all is over.
You are river, running wild
You are river running high.
I’m a footpath rarely walked
I’m a footpath, make me cry.
No cairn is needed, I follow river
I ask for nothing, you’re my giver
You are darkness river heartless.

This reads like a song 🙂
You are darkness river heartless – great line!
Whew. I am fanning myself over this hotness. Yes, ~definitely a song on its own. I love this section:
“I’m a footpath, make me cry.
No cairn is needed, I follow river
I ask for nothing, you’re my giver
You are darkness river heartless.”
Any chance you’re going to sing it for us? 🙂
I would love to but I have no voice to sing with… and no melody
Maybe something will come to you while you sleep.
This is wonderful Bjorn. Thank you for introducing me to Li – wow. This is so lyrical and flows like a river. the last stanza blows me away. Excellent!
I have listened to her many times live as well…. I think she was a bit successful outside Sweden with this song too…
It is wonderful.
To be honest, I was not expecting that ending. Perhaps that is the flare.
I’m listening to “Rare Auld Times” by the Dubliners, and it’s rhythm fits so well to your words. Wonderful poem, Bjorn!
You’ve written a song, Bjorn! I could hear the rhythm and a tune as I read the words. I smiled at the lines:
‘I’m a footpath rarely walked
I’m a footpath, make me cry’.
Rivers are incredible and your poem is like a riversong. It reminded me of the Thames maidens in “The Wasteland”.
I’ve got goose bumps, wonderfully cold and lonely.
Brilliant! I love the flow and rhythmic quality of your poem!
A wonderful song & sonnet, brother. I imagine Dave Matthews singing it. My effort is pure ballad, pure L. Cohen.
Interesting idea to follow the heartless river. Nice sound.
Great words!
Gorgeous love letter to obliteration at the hands of nature.
The rhythm and flow of this is marvelous! Great write, Bjorn!
Wow, Bjorn, i love this. One of my favourites of yours. I love the form, the rhythm , thre rhyme and, especially what this poem says……..sigh. the river wild. So beautiful.
This is definitely lyrical, I found myself singing along.
You are river, running wild
You are river running high.
This is a song itself. 🙂 love these:
Every step will bring me closer
to the ocean, with your motion
to the point when all is over.
Very nice.
Beautifully flowing.
A song which sings like the flow of a river.
Oh, your words and the song fits perfectly. This is a song in itself.
This reads like a true river song and I love your image of the water too :o)
this pulled me along with the flowing river – pure magic!
Awesome, Björn! Hypnotic, hymnotic (if that’s not a word, it should be). This poem has repetition and the essential element of poetry; a wild river. It sings well, too!
A well crafted flowing piece of poetry, one of which I really enjoyed reading. Hope you had a good vacation.
Beautiful and soothing rhythm and repetition…like the river current. Love it.
The wild and heartless river. Every verse pulls the reader into the flow. This poem, in itself, is a heart song. I’m a footpath rarely walked, I’m a footpath, make me cry… powerful words, that speak to the soul.
Lyrical and flowing with a rhythm all it’s own. River like indeed.
Wonderful rhythm and flow.
An interesting exercise that has rendered an entralling – rather mesmerizing – piece.
I’m a sucker for rivers (having grown up by one) . I love the flow (!) of your song.
