At night we talked in unicorn
believing
in the possibility
that broken promises
or shards of hope
can be rectified
with glue.
But daylight turn the unicorns
to donkeys;
we were
awake among the fragments
of our being
to sustain another day.
We are writing poetry to the batik art of Carol Law Conklin with Margaret at toads.

Talking in unicorn. I was looking for that line.
Killer First Line
I would rather talk in ‘unicorn’ than have them turn into donkeys. Smiles.
This is so true….it is talking in unicorn that makes us try to overcome the drudgery of donkey. much love.
Luv the fantasy that the night allows in your poem
Thanks for dropping by to read mine
Much love…
Talking in unicorn, then waking up donkeys. I hate when that happens. Smiles.
This is wonderful. I love the imagery.

Really love your title. It does seem as though believing is for the night, doesn’t it – when the world simmers down and the crazy talk is silenced … for a few hours, at least.
Nice take on the prompt pictures, Bjorn. Unicorns have special appeal to some, you served them well with this one even if they were only donkeys in the second.
(I haven’t posted my other pictures yet)

Whistles!!💝This is one of my favorites from your poems..absolutely love “possibility that broken promises or shards of hope can be rectified with glue…” May it be so! Beautifully penned💝
Lots of love,

Wow, Björn! ! I want to learn unicorn! I love the ‘possibility / that broken promises / or shards of hope / can be rectified / with glue’. But I was sad that the daylight turned the unicorns to donkeys until you cheered me up with some Patti Smith! I’m reading M Train at the moment and loving it. Have you read any of her poetry?
I have not done that… I realize I should maybe…
awake among the fragments
of our being to sustain another day.
Awakened in the morning and one has to face up to realities again

Oh so cleverly written, Bjorn. I choose the unicorn time!
Amazing analogy with unicorns and donkeys. I love that your poems always beckon thoughts and actions!
Oh… yes unicorns are magical but donkeys – hey, they are put out in a farmer’s pasture to protect other small animals – If I were a dog or wild critter I’d think twice messing with a donkey. Donkeys will gather those fragments in a practical manner and sustain – so we can dream of the unicorns at night 🙂 I am putting another spin on it as I just love donkeys.
Not only do I love the idea of unicorns, but you put my favorite singer-poet-writer on your site. I have seen Patti many times, & she is always amazing.
