Broken into order,
arranged we’re
waiting row by row
each hue its own;
each shade of you
is sorted through;
how brittle is
your shell?
Cause yolks are
yellow, brains are
grey and bones
like whites
the same;
and in the end
we share as equals
being omelet.
How would it be
if all the chefs
were colorblind?

Love this. Good advice for the world, for sure.
In your title, I also see: Shelled by You.
This was actually my other choice, smiles ~ Love the message: we share as equals, being omelet., at the end Bjorn. Maybe all the chefs are colorblind~ Love the clever title too ~
I look forward to a future world where everyone is color blind, kind, fair, & compassionate–so that when that UFO lands on the White House lawn, we will introduce ourselves as Earthites.
I wasn’t sure if anyone else would go for the eggs – and what a great job you’ve done with them! I love those lines:
‘and in the end
we share as equals
being omelet’!
Ha.. we seem to be many eggheads tonight…
I was going to go with the seaside one because of the online course I’m doing on poetry of the sea. And then I thought, why not be an egg-head!
How would it be, indeed?
Alas, we are fried, scrambled, poached, coddled, omletted….and in the end, no matter the outside of the egg, the insides are all the same – hummingbird or ostrich. I like how this hearkens to a better world.
Perfect!
How brittle, indeed? A lovely poem, Bjorn.
Wonderful work, Bjorn! My favorite lines:
How would it be
if all the chefs
were colorblind?
–not just for chefs, but a great question for all of us!
“each shade of you…” This becomes such a very powerful metaphor in your hands. Needs to be put out there.
Ha 💖 such a clever and witty question posed at the end.. how would it be indeed 😀
such a reflective and contemplative piece! 🙂 love that witty last line! 🙂
We are all omelettes in the end no matter how life beats us down. If we could only get past all of our shells…
i think they all probably taste about the same.
the colorblind thing, that read deep for me.
great contribution!
That is the perfect way to be thinking about those eggs in all those hues – and yet ultimately, all the same inside! I wasn’t expecting it somehow, but it fits the picture 100%.
Clever, clever, clever. I was wondering what it would be like to be over in the top right hand corner – how would you ever meet the egg in the bottom right? And, of course, all eggs are much the same once you crack them – except, of course, my neighbour’s free range eggs, which are the colour of a Van Gogh sunrise.
You had fun with this one and made me smile. I thought about writing about the eggs and the many colors of skin tones in the world, but you touched on it perfectly.
Nobody cares what colour the shell was when the omelet is good. So yes, it would be great if we could see the good or bad inside of others, rather than only seeing the shell.
But of course it happens that there is a rotten smell inside…
true as well! (but also not based on shell colour)
A very cheery poem that made me smile.
A sweet, silly poem. Enjoyed it…but it does pack a good message. By the way…yokes can be orange and deeper…not only yellow. The deeper towards orange I think means something good.
Bjorn, I’d say you are a “good egg” and I like your omelet recipe here. Let’s learn to look past the outer shells 🙂
