I am cold, even though the heat of early summer is adequate. I am cold because I cannot find my heart.
Sebastian Barry from A long long way
I shiver icicled; I’m
haloed haled,
with Hel withheld;
I’m in your presence
frozen, promise shattered,
spilled on marble, lost.
Why is the sun so old today?
Today at dVerse Walt is hosting and have an interview with Laurie Kolp who used to be a host at dVerse when I started writing there. Come and read the interview, write your own poem inspired by the quote, or both.
* Note; Hel is the goddess of the underworld in Norse Mythology.
Are you kidding me with this? Man, this is incredible. My goodness, your sound/word play has me spinning in circles. The turn in that last line is fantastic.
You know, you can make ice cream out of snow. So maybe you can also turn an ice-sickle into a Pop-sickle.
Sometimes the answer you need is in repurposing. Instead of seeking warmth, maybe you should just enjoy the power/”heat” inside the cold.
Any chance we’re going to hear from Luke? That would make my millennium.
Alas I fear that only Anakin will come… he seems to be here already.
That was mighty clever, Mister. 😉
Goodness ☺
🙂
So cool it’s frozen, brother–nice downturn of POV & wordsmithing.
Thank you man… this was fun to do…
Fabulous word-play here, Bjorn. And thank you for introducing me to Hel!
Please do not feel yourself introduced… it’s better to keep her away 🙂
But I might add that Freya should of course be aware of Hel… 🙂
Indeed she should – she just knew Hel by another name 😉
I think hell might be drawn from Hel… so yes we do know the name
I did wonder if that might be the case!
Reblogged this on chithankalai.
I’m in your presence

These lines just blew my mind away! Fabulous play on words here Bjorn 🙂
Thank you Sanaa… and I’m so impressed with you being awake….
A chilling sevenling, Bjorn, and I love that final line.
I feel so cold, icicled, frozen, lost. A lovely sevenling Bjorn!
A sharp sevenling, and a great view of the prompt. I know it was challenging, but we have to push ourselves as much as we can!
Well encapsulated, and poignant close.
“I shiver icicled; ” well that’s my response too, to this fabulous poem 🙂
Love this! One small question though…in the final line, did you mean to ask why the sun is old or cold?
Ah… Both actually, all intended but well spotted
Was there a reason one is disadvantaged. It is devastating not knowing why!
Hank
I really liked the mention of Hel in this one, it is the little mythological note that encircles your piece for me.
