Reflected sunlight ends the breath
for us a dinner it’s a death
as silver fades on muscled scales,
to sizzling oil, from fin to tail, with garlic’s dressed
She serves me sunset with the wine
her hair is kelp, her breast the line
I follow, gaze, and while I wait
for food to fry, she smiles and baits me fore we dine.
But afterwards, we meet the moon,
a crescent spilled as silver spoons
on waves reminds me of the fish
we sacrificed, delicious dish, as life has gone.
Today Gayle introduces us to a form called florette at dVerse MTB, come join us at 3 PM EST when the bar opens.

Another beautiful piece to read Bjorn. She serves me sunset with wine…deliciously written.
Life and death, they seem ever entwined, even in wine.
So elegant, Björn. Thanks for posting early to help me with the form. I love the line…she served me sunset.
Oh, this is so very clever, Bjorn. Sounds like quite a dinner…and she sounds like quite a seductress!
This is about a mermaid who chooses to become a human (letting her fishy self die) for you. Or is it the other way around? Did she pull you under? It’s hard to tell sometimes.
Very cool poem. I especially like the second stanza.
Thank you Shawna… this could be a mermaid.. but it could be a fish and a dame…
I specially love: She serves me sunset with the wine ~
The rhyming is effortless ~ Beautiful poem & form Bjorn ~
Who livd, who died, who was sacrificed midst this superb florette? I, too, look to you for subtleties of the form; though I went with six quatrains.
True, that fish had to die so you could enjoy it…and each other. Lovely, Bjorn.
This is very melodic, almost a bit erotic, if that’s possible where frying fish is involved. Peace, Linda

Oh my, the lines are dramatic set a romantic tone..you a natural with this form.
Delicious
Quite a dinner that – fried fish, wine and romance!!
sunsets and wine are romantic and I think I’d forget about dinner.
You are getting more and more romantic, Bjorn dear, such lush imagery, yet withouth ‘trying too hard’ to be poetic!
Beautiful words, setting the scene, setting the table, enjoying each other…now I’m hungry! 🙂
Clever and rife with sensuality. Sounds like a wonderful meal in all senses of the word. I thank the fish who sacrificed his life so this subtle and amazing poem could be written.
Very intriguing. Fish or mermaid…either way seductress. Bravo.

She did not waste any time being the seductress. She had designs and that’s being clever. Great word craft Bjorn!

“She serves me sunset with the wine”…very cool line! Sounds like quite the fascinating dinner!
“She serves me sunset with the wine” A wonderful line!
There is something fishy in the tale…. Well penned.
This is quite moving. Often one feels little flickers of sadness in the midst of a good time … perhaps because we know that good times pass or perhaps because we know that death is always near. – Perhaps both.
