Making peace with vengeance
is when dinner’s cold for
prisoners of golden hair
for blue eyes and the molten nights
of sinners’ unmade beds.
Bedsheets stiff like lizard’s skin
neon lights and whispered words
wet with stubborn lies,
a night of smothered pestilence.
The sentenced sense of grim pretense
when raptors seek your sick entrails
It’s a lieutenant’s probing hand
engaged in bribery of jurymen.
and muttered hiss of cold revenge.
Making peace with vengeance.

wow you gave this life… it made me think of the importance of forgiveness
Powerful, as always.
Nightmarish!
Hmmmmm
Very well written and so many images were conjured. This line in particular, ” It’s a lieutenant’s probing hand
engaged in bribery of jurymen”
is great!
Wow! Lots of “sin” imagery and all that implies. A compelling read, Bjorn!
This is excellent. I love these lines:
“prisoners of golden hair
for blue eyes and the molten nights”
“Bedsheets stiff like lizard’s skin
neon lights”
“The sentenced sense of grim pretense
when raptors seek your sick entrails”
Oh my! Some great lines, fearsome imagery – very deep, very powerful
Very powerful and apt! 🙂
i can sense the anger throughout, though no direct harsh words were directed to the reader, but rather a descriptive attitude in telling, Nice one
Thanks for your visit to my blog
much love…
The title is a paradox — how can anyone make peace with vengeance, much less make peace with a vengeance? So the result here can’t help but dig in nightmare dirt. How can anyone bury the hatchet when they won’t let it go?
Exactly what I wanted to say.. maybe hope that the hatchet rust.. I will try to leave a comment on your site… but I for some reason it is only possible from my mobile phone… 🙂
Always such a cold dish eh? I do dig your reptilian imagery!
Alas! No peace will come where vengeance lives. Loved the imagery. I suppose that’s how vengeance looks and feels like.
I found myself shivering while reading this…scared of what was coming.
Reading your poem had a similar effect on me as looking deeply at an abstract painting. Each line provides a new layer, a new image to wonder at. This is an amazing representation of vengeance.
Gorgeous word choices. I mean “molten nights”? Wow.
Very enjoyable poem.
Wow. So strong. I have to read it over and over, there are many layers of meaning here.
engaged in bribery of jurymen.
and muttered hiss of cold revenge.
Making peace with vengeance.
Great ending Bjorn! Reminds one of the current problems bothering the football world. FIFA seems to be too strong to be dislodged until a few days ago! A wrong footing ought to be righted certainly!
Hank
Whew. Not sure if that is making peace with vengence, or making peace, with vengence. The thing about revenge is that it only makes us feel good in the moment and then we too must live with the consequences of it.
Agree with X….I liked the possibility of double meaning in your title.
Cold, rough paradox….with lovely phonetics!!
perhaps making peace with vengeance means we also no longer have any sense of guilt… just a constant state of hatred.
