We are like oaks and let our roots entwine;
when winter claws, untethered teeth are bared,
our hearts beat slowly; closed are chests and shrines.
We’re waiting, wishing that our sap’s prepared
to rise and greet in joy: return of spring.
Another wish we’d trade for our sapling’s dare
to break their shell and from the acorn bring
through many years of growth, a shadowed grace
of deep compassion for the soil that sing
of promised deals as I propose, and lace
my voice with nectar to become your groom.
You whisper “yes”, and suddenly this place
is filled with bliss, your words: perfume
rekindle love again, as bluebells bloom.
Today Ella want us go fairytale and include some promises. I think it fitted the narrative of the story I’m telling in my heroic sonnet crown. Only three sonnets (plus one) remaining now:
here are the preceding ones: Bluebells, The tear of tears, Before the monsters, When we had built a nest, Let’s mend the bridges, Your icicles, Our highway through the sky, The emptiness of brine, Of carnivores and feeble frills and Silver filigree.
This is also my post no: 1700.

Your words are just beautiful…they cut right to my heart some days.
interesting use of seasons as a metaphor for love…that it can wane (like winter), but hopefully rekindle (like the blooming of bluebells in spring).
This is beautiful, Bjorn – what an epic you are creating – wonderful!
You know by now, the romantic that I am, i m totally emersed myself in that rekindled love. very beautiful poem
Much love…
nothing not to like here
Each sonnet becomes more beautiful. The progression of this is a wonderful thing to read.
Oooohhhh…deep sigh…this is pure, passion entwined with the beauty and aptness of nature…really seductive in my view. Beautifully written, Bjorn.
Oh I LOVE this one, where the answer is Yes! and the bluebells bloom. Beautiful, Bjorn. Happy and hopeful. Your sonnet series is wonderful. They could be a book.
and lace
my voice with nectar to become your groom
That is lovely. I think the image is interesting as in my minds eye – I see a gravestone lit by light – beneath the massive branches and which speaks to me of all the stages of life and love – kind of parallels the seasons…
A perfect mingling of romance and nature…what more could one ask for? Perfection, Bjorn 🙂
This is almost painfully beautiful, Björn! I really don’t know what else to say. Magnificent!
Beautiful word pictures here Bjorn. I love the way you move the story along with the change of seasons.
Sorry for the double post, but I just can’t let this one go… I sometimes find your work a bit on the complex side, where I have to properly think and understand – although your language is always beautiful. But this one…
Such a magical sonnet this one…! Absolutely riveting 😀
There’s this breathless quality to your piece, where it feels like all the words have burst forth from the person’s heart after being kept in too long. It works pretty well.
Very beautiful!
“We are like oaks and let our roots entwine; when winter claws” This is beautiful. Love takes strength, unity and yes romance.
I love your beginning and ending! Your imagery has a magical quality-which I love~ I, too love the pull of the seasons…each has a tug of war-just like love. Well Done!
Sounds good, Bjorn. I like too the anticipation of the coming end of winter and transition into Spring.
..
Wow Bjorn, this is wonderful. Great images, language, you are a turning out consistently excellent sonnets. I especially like the opening lines:
We are like oaks and let our roots entwine;
when winter claws, untethered teeth are bared,
our hearts beat slowly; closed are chests and shrines.
We’re waiting…
Very romantic Bjorn ~ I specially love the sonnet’s ending lines:
lace
my voice with nectar to become your groom.
You whisper “yes”, and suddenly this place
is filled with bliss, your words: perfume
rekindle love again, as bluebells bloom.
great nature piece… the form for this worked well… i always enjoy how you put words together… they sing
Beautiful imagery of nature to explore the renewal of love.
