Carpe Diem Haiku – Sogi’s “life in this world “

Sogi wrote:

life in this world
just like a temporary shelter
from a winter shower

The brevity and the shelter are calling to me in this rare haiku, it is also quite direct and there is no beating around the bush by actually saying in direct words what he mean rather than just portraying it indirectly by a subtle metaphor. The simile of temporary shelter from a winter shower talks strongly to me on the other hand. To mimic his tone we have to keep the directness and still find a strong nice simile.

close to my grave
life seems like the footprints
fading in the thaw

  1. As I sit in this hospital room listening to my Mother’s delirious ramblings and prayers to die your haiku spoke to my soul. Mom is not near death just a brain that is in delirium. w
Wonderful response to the Sogi haiku. .

  2. “footprints in the snow fading in the thaw” Wonderfully spun words. The seeing of new life begining but realizing it is not part of yours…. superb! One of your best- since I have been reading.

I love your feedback
