    The word “caress” makes this sound comforting and almost loving, but when you think of this in the context of winter, dying embers can mean freezing to death. In any case, great imagery.

  2. Drawn to the glow for one last warming of the backside before heading for bed, the old woman pokes at the dying embers.

    So much to take form your simple haiku.
