shattered dreams
slipping through my fingers
sun-warm sand
waves caress your shore
as footsteps lead away

Dreams slipping through your fingers like sand … nice tanka Björn.
Lovely, as always. I know the feeling of dreams slipping through fingers like sand.
Oh, I have this scene stored in my memories. Do you read other people’s mind? Wonderful, as always.
i like how you use my and your in this bjorn…
imagine those waves washing away the footsteps
leading away as well…
shattered dreams to footsteps that lead away – an epic journey perfectly captured in so few words.
I really enjoyed this interpretation, Bjorn — it would have worked well as a haiku, but when you add those two lines to make it a tanka it becomes that much more poignant and even softly sensual — “waves caress your shore” —
Great tanka 😀
Bittersweet, Bjorn!
Sad when dreams are shattered, but they teach us a lot 🙂
so sad – such a lonely feeling conjured up by your haiku
Resonates with sadness and relates to the Poe poem. Lovely !
A beautiful tanka dear Bjorn and very much in the spirit of Poe’s poem in my opinion.
A very strong sadness there.
such strong longing…a love so fragile slipping away. The sand and ocean are so powerful in this tanka!
Only “your” shore gets caressed? 😉

Bjorn, Sad but perhaps hopeful in that someone is leaving to perhaps begin again. Well written. 🙂 — Suzanne
