shrouded moonshine, dying bogs
heavy footsteps, silent sigh
grinning pumpkins, freezing fog
rotting woodsheds, burning eyes
rattling claws on windowpanes
bloodstained napkins, dirty deeds
echoes from the one-way lane
screaming ghouls of vicious breed
eerie music – not discreet
rotting limbs and glistening fangs
gruesome streets of sickly gangs
smell of candy – tricky treats

Warm Halloween by Jamie Wyeth
Today at dVerse MTB Tony present a wonderful article and examples of list-poetry. We are approaching the time of ghouls and ghosts, so why not a little ditty of what awaits us?

A terrific list poem, sir; spooky & cool. Thanks for the dVerse alert. I get desperate if I have to wait too long.
Ah, yes, soon it will be Halloween! You’ve let me know what I have to look forward to in only a few days!
a rather sinister tone until that last line…candy makes things so much better 🙂
ha. nice list…got a little scary before turning sweet as candy…smiles….this will be my oldest boys last year to trick n treat….funny all the little things that can spook us too….
moonshine has a different meaning in my neck of the woods…smiles.
🙂 moonshine and spirits can mean different things.. at least in the neck of the woods
ha ok – i have to make sure the door is properly locked…you scared me a bit… honestly… halloween scares me a bit – even if it sounds odd…oy…
Bring plenty of candy and you are safe..
This is a great list poem, Bjorn. It has a natural rhythm that really pulls it along … and a sweet ending after all the spooky stuff … smiles.
Tricky list, tricky treats…
Halloween was always fun! And I would need everything on your list!
Halloween has never held much appeal to me – apart from pumpkin pie. Maybe because I do not like to be frightened. They tried to introduce it in France but few people pay any attention. Is it very popular in Sweden?
I think they are trying.. but we are resisting … 🙂
🙂
Who else could write a rhyming list of ghouls and goblins that really gets to the heart of Halloween at its most gruesome.
Nice job with the list poetry assignment and your chosen topic. Halloween is my least favorite holiday and you’ve successfully reminded me of why. Peace, Linda
What a creepy Halloween list – makes me glad we don’t celebrate it much down here in Oz 🙂
I think this is my favorite of all your writings I have read. Totally reading this to my kids for Halloween! Rotting limbs and glistening fangs…Their going to love it.
What a mix of things is this Holiday in the USA–and awful awful Hollywood Halloween movies! I’m sorry to hear it’s the same there. Well, the candy is ok for a once a year kind of thing.
Bjorn, I’m not sure I’d want to go trick or treating in that neighborhood or with that gang around. Kids will love this. With them, the more horrifying and yucky the better. 🙂 — Susan
It is very popular here so I am looking forward to the tricks and treats, smiles ~ Love the Halloween stuff Bjorn ~
Great use of the list idea Bjorn, so very well done, wonderful images to ponder.
Oooooooooooooooooh. I’m frightened now. I love seeing all the little gouls on Halloween. Unfortunately, I live in a rural area and no kids come around. Enjoyed your list.
that was a fun read. it flowed quite nicely…the beat and rhyme…lovely…
Fun list! I’m observer though…
a grand reminder of an interesting spooky fun time ahead 🙂
This is so cool!! We don’t celebrate Halloween here, but your poetry tells me its pretty fun and nicely eerie too 🙂
Very cool spooky list, you could almost sing this as you are walking about trick and treating!
What a great poem. Excellent sound. I can hardly wait to experience it all myself. 🙂
Loved this Hallowe’en poem. But the best were the last two words. ‘tricky treats’ Great.
Groovy piece- really captured Halloween perfectly. Love- “rotting woodsheds, burning eyes”
Aha – love that punch of list poetry and eerie images – cool effect Bjorn 🙂
Fun rhyme and flow. Do they have Halloween where you are? How is it different than the USA?
Traditionally we don’t have it.. But we have imported a little of the American way of doing it…
So, have you lived in America and experienced it?
I have travelled through.. But the periods i lived there Halloween was never included..
Do you wish your country had Halloween? Is your country’s version fun? I’ve heard complaints of the Halloweens imported to Europe.
Ah, you captured the neighborhood at Halloween so well! (At least that’s what it makes me think of. All of the items are things I see around our neighborhood.) That was fun.
gruesome streets of sickly gangs? ummm are we talking Haloween in West Africa?? 😉 cute
hurricane and jordan
A fun and spooky poem – wonderful list for the season!
Ah Halloween! You captured its macabre beauty. 🙂
Ooh, that’s a spooky halloween all right!
Björn, what a delightful reminder that Halloween is just around the corner. If I may, I simply adore these three little lines –
grinning pumpkins, freezing fog
rotting woodsheds, burning eyes
rattling claws on windowpanes
