new moon
she, our moon will grow again
a new life cycle

And I write

gently smiling
crescent moon bids welcome –
a child is born

  1. This lovely crescent is in our family a banana moon or a fingernail moon. Interestingly enough one of our sons was born on the second full moon of the month in his birth year.

  2. This brought to mind a children’s book by Nancy Tillman, that I have read to my grandchildren. It begins with the words: “On the night you were born, The moon smiled with such wonder.” The crescent moon smiling – what an enchanted, enduring image . . . and now, I believe I shall always think of it as welcoming a child. Lovely thought.
