Lorna had insisted that the ceremony was to be cheerful, a ceremony disregarding her suffering towards the end. A ceremony to commemorate a life of Happiness shared with her sister Mary and Lorna’s beloved husband Henry, all they had done together before cancer.
Music and sangria at her wake was tasteful, but soon it went too far. Mary and Henry kissed, and when Henry’s hand slipped under Mary’s skirt, a glass of sangria hit the floor.
Shocked, Henry looked at Mary, and at Lorna’s portrait where a hideous grin was plastered across her face. The poltergeist’s laughter was clearly audible.
This week Rochelle have selected this picture for us. I’m not sure, but to me this took a more humorous turn at the end, anyway I hope it was at least fairly original.
Friday Fictioneers under the guidance of Rochelle is close to 100 bloggers who every week write a 100 word story on the same picture.

Now there’s a twist.
A nice twist in the end. Well-penned. 🙂
Excellent 😀
You can’t have a more cheerful ceremony than that!
Sangria’s all around! Great story.
I wasn’t expecting that turn at the end. Well done!
Ha! I always enjoy you twisted stories.
oh geez…hmmm…perhaps she knew his feelings all along…
i imagine a rather haunted life for him…
excellent twist! i used to say i wanted everyone to do tequila shots on my wake. but it doesn’t mean that i want them to forget me too soon!! 🙂
Great use of the painting in an unexpected way!
Well written. I love surprise endings and this one was ghostly also.
lorna must have planned it all along.
Nicely done.
Oh good, they can still all be together… Good idea.
I would have hit them on the head with the bottle of Sangria! Excellent!
So much speculation after reading this — was something going on between them before; was this Lorna’s revenge, was Lorna possessing/controlling them. Excellent tale with lots of hidden depths.
The poltergeist was a great twist at the end–really enjoyed this!
Nice. I enjoyed this!
I really enjoyed this. Intense.
Very nice. I guess we all should behave as if “Someone” is watching. 🙂
I like to think Lorna wanted her loved ones to move on with their lives…together. But then again, sex might not have been what she had in mind. More like…hand-holding…
Ooohhh. Creepy. That smile was chilling! I really loved this!
Ooh,scary or what!Best not to drink Sangria-even at a wake,lol!Good one Bjorn:-)
Ooh, chill up my spine Björn! I had a friend Lorna, who died last year of cancer. She was a fan of sangria, and she would absolutely come back to put her husband in his place, if he were to do this… nicely written!
Ah.. I had no idea… what a chilling coincidence…
I know… I found it extra chilling because of that.
Great story. Such treachery so soon!
Hahahahaha! Brilliant, Bjorn! I think he got a little more than fruit out of that wine!
Bjorn, you’ll have to talk to Janet about her daughter’s ability to embue her work with otherworldly powers. Lorna may have loved Henry and Mary, but not together–especially at her memorial service. Looks like she put a permanent kibosh on that relationship and probably doomed the painting. Good story.
I think Sandra said it best – they are still all together. What a conundrum for the surviving lovers!
Hitting on the sister. I guess they should be glad she only broke a glass and laughed. I knew that portrait was sentient. Fabulous story!
Dear Björn,
Wasn’t that a fine funeral? A portrait of Lorna Gray? Good one.
shalom,
Rochelle
I’m with Helena. Wonder what the three of them had done together before Lorna’s cancer? When the painting changed, I bet poor Henry lost his boner.
Hi Bjorn,
Ingenious how you worked in all the elements of the photo. I’m going to play some Abba in your honor. Or maybe it should be Ace of Bass’ I Saw the Sign. Ron
WOW! Creepy good! Henry & Mary perhaps should sleep with one eye opened for awhile. The smile on the picture changing gave me goose bumps. Awesome!
Russell’s comment is a gem. Spooky story!
I think I might have jumped when that glass hit the floor.
Uh oh sounds like they’re in trouble. Get ’em Lorna!
Great twist, creepy ending…wonderful story 🙂
Amusing and creepy! Lorna’s about to get creative!
