on watery background
trees paint ink-washed silhouettes –
after-noon snowfall
my mind wanders aimlessly
like a nut-searching squirrel

ha. i love squirrels, so the close on this is cool bjorn….nice the nod to watercolor in the beginning and it gives a cool image against the snowfall…
lovely imagery!
really loved ‘ ink-washed silhouettes’. reminds me of a chinese painting. 🙂
I know what you mean, Bjorn! In the winter, I feel so cooped up indoors. I want to run around free with spring fever! Enjoyed this. Stay warm! 🙂
luv the painting activity of the trees; have a nice Sunday
much love…
Wonderful imagery, I’d love my mind to be a squirrel! 😀
nice! it looks like that here, too. squirrels and all 🙂
Very well expressed. I thought the line about the ink washed silhouettes was particularly accomplished.
..ah, how do you feel such a scene like this… i wanna know since we don’t have one here & will never get to have one for sure… but your tanka is very suggestive of idleness in an afternoon snowfall… enjoyed this, Bjorn… smiles…
I really like this one Bjorn–that is exactly the feeling I get when I am out wandering under the trees–that sense of something they have dropped for me to find if I look hard enough.Excellent tanka.
haha my mind wanders like that squirrel sometimes..I enjoyed this Bjorn.
A mind like that must be in hyper-drive…cabin fever mode…
Well-put scene, sir.
I wish tanka came this beautiful, this soothing to me. I’ve gotta learn how to see.
❤
Wonderful link between man and nature and thought pattern which produces the poem. Empty times like these allow thoughts to gather, I find.
And what a beautiful sight beyond your window – so wild and natural in muted light.
What a wonderful view from your window. I love your tanks, especially the closing lines.
Ha, I can identify with the mind wandering like a nut-gathering squirrel!! Really an excellent simile – I identify!
really liked “ink-washed silhouettes ” great line…
beautiful, peaceful image 🙂
Gorgeous tanka, Bjorn! I love it and can relate in so many ways! Bravo!
As if nature and art are born together in a moment of body stillness and mind sniffing out the food. Lovely, a feew words lift me way beyond the central image, and–despite (because of?) the squirrel–into peace.
Nice. We find our creativity when our minds wander aimlessly. 🙂
those darn squirrels ~
I love it..my mind seems to be that way often
Brilliant!!
love this contrast of peaceful and calm nature and ever busy mind…..a
wonderful tanka..
Love the way you separated after and noon … great write!
That’s a great simile – mind to squirrel. And the description of the trees and snow fit the picture perfectly.
Your closing second half!! I love it…such great likening and humor to boot!
