Carpe Diem Haiku – Kikaku’s swallows

Today in Carpe Diem, we write haiku inspired by the following haiku of Kikaku

above the sea
a rainbow, erased by
a flock of swallows

I took it a little darker.

Wheatfield with Crows by Vincent van Gogh

Wheatfield with Crows by Vincent van Gogh

above the fields
cerulean sky shadows with
darkest murder

Note – murder also means a flock of crows

  1. I had only learned recently about “murder” being a flock of crows. Figures, since they scavenge dead things. Crucifixions were a haven for crows – pecking out eyes, etc. Your haiku was more in the dark spirit of van Gogh, for my money!
