A little poem to be shared on dVerse, where I let my little teddy bear tell his story. Today is world poetry day from UNESCO.

I came to stay when you were barely one
you were so small you couldn’t reach around
but I decided then, you are my man
In irony my name has always been
“the little bear”, though everyone can see
I was the largest one among your toys
the love we found has always followed me
and I took care of you when you were ill
to share your pain was natural for me
one day, in play, my arm was torn away
you cried in sorrow and I was in pain
but after treatment I was whole again
as you grew older you could forget me
I sat and waited for that single hug
and as you came we were a team again
for more than fifty years we’ve been a team
I share your happiness and sorrows too
for I decided then, you are my man

oh nice…love how you make the bear talk…50 years…wow…that’s something…my son has a little penguin and even though he’s 20 now…still friends…still sharing the bed…smiles
awww you are plucking my heart strings…my teddy bear was a panda…white and black and named teddy…he was in my parents basement up until a couple years ago i gave him to one of my boys….smiles……pretty cool reunion with your own bear…
This is a sweet tale of childhood, loyalty, and care. Thank you for sharing it today. It is good to know he is still present. (I have a little stuffed dog that is missing an eye and her nose after 30+ years of love)
… and what is a man without a teddy bear… shows the softness of his heart
How wonderful is this! To have a toy that held so much love is a blessing.
How very precious to have a bear so loved and loving.
Teddys are not as popular with little ones today. My grandkids seem to like muppets like Elmo, dinosaurs, gorillas. But your poem conjured up the sweetness all the talking teddy bear of yore, yours & mine; nice job with the prompt.
Awww, I am going to read this to Tinks when I see her at the weekend, she will love it as much as I do.
How sweet and waiting for the hug pulled my heart strings ~ Good one ~
G’day Bjorn,
Everyone should have a teddy bear, expressed beautifully.
Such a sweet poem.
Memories even from a beloved Teddy Bear. Sweet poem.
Just lovely! Great to have a teddy bear!
Love this! So very like the teddy to speak its’ mind.
Aww… this is so sweet and touching… reminds me of The Velveteen Rabbit. My husband got a few laughs when we first got toether and he found out I still carried around a stuffed animal (rabbit).
There is something very special about the relationship between a bear and his boy. A sweet poem.
Men can love teddies and that in itself is powerful.
My much bigger handsome bear called Arthur send his regards to your little bear and says if he ever finds himself down under he’ll take him for a surf!:)
I still have my teddy bear – although he’s not in such good condition as yours, Bjorn. My wife still has hers too; he’s onto his third skin 🙂
what a wonderful poem for a cherished companion! K
Ah…sweet childhood animal buddies..I too had a bear.but this reminded me a lot of today’s “Toy Story” movie with Tom Hanks…the series aptly explores how the toys themselves feel and ‘live’ while their owner is at school or away…..loved this!
Ah teddy bears are cherished faithful friends – always will share a hug when you need one…
