Today’s Carpe Diem prompt is the kigo first ring gust (haru Ichiban). I got to think about children’s books again and what’s better than “Olle’s ski trip”, where the nemesis of skiing is the old Mrs Thaw, who make skiing impossible, but with the first spring storm, she clears the way for Princess Spring,
gusty winds
clear away the snow
spring will come

fields are brown
in footsteps of the thaw
coltsfoot brighten

muddy shoes
in the first gust of spring
take them off inside

Welcoming spring is always something to be happy about 🙂
Very nice haiku – but you don’t fool me! I know you have tons of snow also! Best regards!
Not tons really.. But some, and spring is far away.
That Mrs Thaw, any relation to Thor?
Only in Boston and parts of western Pennsylvania.

first snow
then mud
then greenery

These are gorgeous. I like the muddy shoes! 🙂
Muddy shoes: sure signs of spring!
Spring Gusts
Oh my! I just love that coltsfoot coming up in the footsteps of the thaw! Delightful visual!
First spring gusts in Maine mean “mud season” !
Thanks for the great haiku.
Peace,
Siggi
I welcome the first gust of spring but those muddy shoes have to be left out.
Very creative take.
We have gusts in the UK right now – mostly from the east so not warm. But the sun is out today for the first time in a while so we can imagine spring is around the corner. I really relate to those muddy shoes.
Lovely set of haiku welcoming Spring ~ great photos as always ^_^
love the haiku as always but those illustrations are so pretty!
Awesome series Bjorn. I like how you were inspired by a children’s book. Spring is coming. Here in The Netherlands the temperature is rising to 15 degrees Celsius today and I have been sitting in the sun already.
So very…real images created with your words. I can almost recognize spring there…just like the one here.
Tussilago farfara?
That has always been my first indication of Spring.
Yes tussilago farfara 🙂
