Carpe Diem Haiku Bosun Special – Scarecrow

Today the prompt on Carpe Diem is this haiku by Buson

the owner of the field
goes to see how his scarecrow is
and comes back

So venturing out to find a nice woodblock print I found this little masterpiece by Bairei Kono.

Scarecrow by Bairei Kono (1844-1895)

Sacercrow by Bairei Kono (1844-1895)

scarecrow by the pond
difficult to tell apart
from his owner
~~
lonely old scarecrow
winter crow builds nest in hat
field unguarded
~~
harmless scarecrow
ridiculed by starling flock
unloaded bow

  1. I don’t know why I cannot see the image, but your three haiku are very well crafted.
My favorite line is winter crow builds nest in hat and my favorite haiku is the third.
    🙂

  2. Well, after posting my previous comment, I could see the little masterpiece by Bairei Kono, wonderful in its simplicity indeed; now I can understand your line unloaded bow.
    🙂

  3. Visual is very well found, and the first haiku is an epic – I can instantly imagine how tough the farmer’s life has been, up to the point where he stands by the pond, tired, next to his scarecrow. 2nd clever, 3rd very special.
