Carpe Diem Haiku – mandarin ducks (oshidori)

Today’s winter kigo is on Carpe Diem Haiku is mandarin ducks (oshidori). I found this very famous woodblock print by Hiroshigo.
It also have a little text


Out in a morning wind,
Have seen a pair of mandarin ducks parting.
Even the best loving couple makes a quarrel.


So I will try to do something on this, today a little 575 in a cascade.

    Your take is darker though, as there seems to be a third party ~ Love the jewel in the pond ~

  2. This is really beautiful. I like how the first and last lines are the same. My favorite stanza(?) is the middle. To me, the middle one is superbly classic.

  3. Thank you so much. I think each “stanza” should be an independent haiku. Sometimes there is a something cyclic, like the filandering drake.
