Today’s winter kigo is on Carpe Diem Haiku is mandarin ducks (oshidori). I found this very famous woodblock print by Hiroshigo.

Out in a morning wind,
Have seen a pair of mandarin ducks parting.
Even the best loving couple makes a quarrel.
So I will try to do something on this, today a little 575 in a cascade.

The first one is great, like the other two, but the first really was classical – thanks!
Thank you pirate 🙂
Awesome cascading haiku. You’ve written a nice set. So sad that this mandarin couple ‘divorced’.
Thank you, the myth of faithful mandarin ducks is most likely just a myth.
Even the most loving couple quarrel, I agree ~
Your take is darker though, as there seems to be a third party ~ Love the jewel in the pond ~
Thank you Grace
i admire how you made this haiku seem so effortless! ^^ i very much loved the flow and the text above too
Thank you, sometimes the flow just get there. The picture is so important for me to write poetry.
flowing verse ~ not a fan of ‘cascading’ but you do it well ~

I think it’s important that each haiku stand by itself. Otherwise I prefer to write separate ones.
But 3 per prompt I try to do.
This is really beautiful. I like how the first and last lines are the same. My favorite stanza(?) is the middle. To me, the middle one is superbly classic.
Thank you so much. I think each “stanza” should be an independent haiku. Sometimes there is a something cyclic, like the filandering drake.
Nothing ducky about mandarin ducks, it seems…
Demanding Ducks
Indeed
I guess even in the duck world — there are squabbles. 😀 The beginning Haiku is my favorite, and it certainly could stand alone. Nice job with cascade.
Playful Mandarins
So many birds mate for life, so I was disappointed that these lovely ducks do not….
Jewel in the pond! Beautiful!
