This weeks entry in 100 word challenge for grownups. The prompt is … and winter would bring . This week exactly 100 word.
Her garden was basking in the summer sun. As usual she was with her beloved flowers. She always talked with her petunias and sat down with the roses. Just then her mobile vibrated and she received a text message:
"I am leaving U, will not come home 2night"
Everything went black, and she passed out.
Returning after a month in hospital her garden was as brown and dry as her soul. She walked into the empty house, and cleaned out his things.
She sighed with relief, no gardening and winter would bring her the solace she need.

How sad. Sounds like he turned her world completely upside down. I know what that’s like.
Devastating…
Oh no … was she paying more attention to her flowers than the relationship – liked the juxtaposition – her flowers are in bloom but her relationship has withered.
And in the end she lost both, but with hope for recovery 🙂
and the cold of winter always rejuvenates with the promise of spring…eventually. great imagery and, as said above, the juxtaposition is well done. She seemed, to me, lonely even with the relationship …
I think she was, and maybe she come out with a more healthy relationship to the garden.
With a text message? How awful!
Has to be the worst way … but apparently it’s becoming common.
Oh this is such a sweet comparison. Her garden will blossom again and so will he heart 🙂
She will come out healed and probably with less obsession to her garden.
Or maybe it’s better to obsess over her garden and guard her heart….
So sad, but a very nice use of the challenge phrase. It does sound as if her flowers got most of her attention, but she’s better off without the man that wouldn’t tell her face to face that he’s leaving her.
exactly.. help is on its way, and he probably ended up drinking himself to death in a seedy motel…
Tell her she’s wrong! In gardening lies hope and solace!
I’m not sure why she was relieved there was no gardening? Curling up indoors can be a solace, sure, especially with a good book! 🙂
My intention was that the garden was a lot of pressure and facade… Hopefully with spring she can recover
Ah, yes, of course!
And I hope she can discover the joys of the garden again, if only to laze about in it – which is surely the noblest purpose of a garden!
She’s gotta get a grip. You conveyed the emptiness and resignation well.
I think she needed the winter to get a grip. Thank you 🙂
So sad, but I’m glad winter will bring solace.
when sadness goes to melancholy, healing is close…
Truely beautiful, but so sad. . . could be the beginning of a great novel
Or maybe the end…
How sad. But she will come through.
Of course 🙂
I love the hope – and juxtaposition. Beautifully done.
Thank you 🙂
And in one moment, her world looks like it inverted itself. But with winter comes a new spring, and new growth along the way.
Great work with this one. Very emotional and turbulent.
Thank you 🙂 emotions are suppressed I think. Could be even stronger.
moving, very moving x
I agree
