Tonight the lidless eye of the hunter’s moon stares through the window, painting my thoughts in cold silver. Outside the feral wind wrings the few remaining leaves and hurls them into untidy piles on the streets bathing in moon-silver. Some neighbors have decorated with fake cobwebs and plastic corpses. Will we have any visiting adorable little monsters later this week?
We have candy.

Today Frank hosts dVerse haibun Monday, and since it is full moon today the prompt is hunter’s moon.

Hi Bjorn, this is very descriptive. It is strange to read about cooler weather when it is so hot here.
That is hard for me to imagine too…
I love that phrase in the opening sentence, Björn: ‘the lidless eye of the hunter’s moon’, and the image of untidy piles of leaves ‘bathing in moon-silver’. I need to get some sweets in for the trick or treaters – although last year nobody turned up.
None visited here either… many are actually gone, since schools are out, many have left for warmer places.
The idea of moon – silver is magical – Jae
It truly can look like silver
Very nicely done, Bjorn. Your images of the moon and leaves work very well.
It is that season 🙂
yes it is!!
A beautifully evocative write, Bjorn. I, too, love the Tolkien turn-of-phrase “lidless eye.”
Indeed quite inspired by Sauron (but I think better of the moon)
Superb prose…those first sentences—very true. Makes me think of my years in Finland and Estonia (on the “Swedish Coast”). …plastic corpses indeed…
It is amazing what people do…
