September ends

Fog-born mornings — fall
a blank canvas waiting for its hues
a lady to be dressed in ember
in harvest and decay.

Midday and a clear sun
still warms, pretending
that its rule
isn’t ending way too soon.

September soon will end
but we wait prepared
with candles lit
with firewood for warmth,
with apple pie and roast
with dreams to fill our sleep.
with us much closer than before.

Gustav Klimt – Birchenwald

  1. This is exquisitely drawn, Bjorn! I love apple pie and roast 😀 perfect to keep us warm during the season ❤️❤️

  2. Your title had me in mind of the Green Day song 🙂 Candles, firewood and apple pie are definitely signature autumn goodies! And I absolutely love that Klimt painting🌟

  3. You have told me such special qualities of Drptember coming to an end, so unlike where i live

    Bravo

  4. The imagery of dressing autumn in ember and coming together around firewood, candles, and apple pie is so wonderfully comforting! As Sunra Rainz noted in the comments, it instantly brings that Green Day vibe to mind, and pairing the poem with Klimt’s Birchenwald was perfection. Beautiful write, Björn!

  5. I do love the seasonal change (couldn’t live in the tropics). In my part of the world, the days are lengthening and days warming.

  6. A blank canvas and a blank calendar page to begin again. Those trees look hauntingly alive.

  7. I am still holding on to those last warm rays, the return of roasts and apple pie is a perk, and I love seeing nature dressed in her autumn finery, but I agree with the ending of your poem, it brings us closer bonds, I really enjoyed this Björn 💞Suzanne

  8. Thus looking towards the cold months. Great to experience the change of seasons a privilege not for us in the Equatorial regions. A wonderful poem, Bjorn!
