Sipping on sweetness
of flowers and sun,
swimming in songs of a wren
and the breeze from the sea
I still
find my solace disturbed
by hornets and snakes
mosquitos and ticks
by sunburn and sand
so sometimes I long
for the shadows inside.

Good to read you again, Bjorn. The stanzas seem a bit imbalanced in favor of the shadows inside. Wonderful photo you found to accompany your Q.
There are some things I dislike with summer… would really prefer to go to colder places.
I hear you. The mosquitos are swarming and ravenous right now and summer isn’t even here yet. I love summer at the lake.
The painting is by one of the most famous painters from Skagen which is on the northern tip of Denmark, and once housed an art colony
I love the contrast between your poem, the ‘solace disturbed by hornets and snakes / mosquitos and ticks / by sunburn and sand’ and the idyllic image you chose to illustrate it, Björn, and the thought of ‘swimming in songs of a wren’.
There are things I dislike about summer, so I thought that it would be fun to do that.
I can’t stand the heat, the gnats and other biting insects. However, I have been enjoying the brighter weather here, where it never really reaches 28 degrees.
This was such a fun read, Björn, and so true!
Ha… yes it’s not that bad really, but it was fun to write
Nice one, Björn
much love
